After a lot of issues I finally got the car running. Very poorly I might add. I did a compression test and cylinder 1 had zero compression. Also I noticed a ton of white smoke from the exhaust. That usually means coolant is getting in the cylinder which means head gasket failure. I then drained the oil and it was milky also meaning head gasket failure. Even with a head gasket failure I should have some compression so I was stumped. I removed the cylinder head and found the issue. A bent intake valve. So I will be replacing the valves in cylinder 1 and putting on a new head gasket and I will check compression again. I feel it will be good to go.
I have been working steadily on the car and have run into a couple of problems. I had a broken radiator that has been replaced and now I am trying to track down an electrical issue. I hope to have the car running by this weekend.
I decided to restore the headlights on the rally car using 3M's headlight restoration drill kit. It was very easy and the results were pretty good.
A big thanks to my co-driver Josh Warren for the help with replacing the head gaskets, replacing the intake manifold gaskets, replacing the valve cover gaskets, replacing the spark plugs, adjusting the valves, and replacing the timing belt. I couldn't have done it without him.
I plan on having the car running by the end of the week but I need to acquire a few more parts first.
Next on the list is to replace the front axles, front and rear brake calipers, rotors, pads, and add stainless brake lines.
I will keep posting updates along the way.
After putting everything back together.

I added a few things to the garage. I added a work table with overhead LED light. I also added a second fluorescent light above the car for better lighting. Oh and I cant forget the garage TV.
The Impreza needed a new timing belt. I bought a Gates replacement kit and started to install. Once in there I decided to check the valves. So far I have removed the intake manifold. Part 3 will come after I remove the cylinder heads.
